Allison Calista St.Martin-Whiteman
(AKA Ali)
Born
on April 25th, 1968 in Trinidad, West Indies and raised
in Montreal, Quebec Canada, this naturally talented composer,
singer, dancer and artist takes a new approach to children’s
music.
As a
young girl, Allison always had a love for the arts, so at
the ripe old age of 33, she decided to give up her title
as ‘Computer Programmer’ in exchange for the title ‘Artist/
Performer’. Allison started singing publicly for fun at
the Caribbean
Curry House where a local band Jab
Jab would perform and back up local singers and customers
who wanted to take a turn on the microphone. This is where
Allison first performed her composition ‘Imagination (a
Caribbean lullaby)’, and won the hearts of the crowd; this
song inspired her to keep composing.
Released
in spring 2002,Allison's debut
CD is fresh, innovative music for children with lyrics
that can educate and entertain, and rhythms that will encourage
children to dance and to be expressive.
Being
a mother of four, Allison had alot of practise on entertaining
children, she would always make up "silly little songs"
and change her voice to match all of the stuffed animals
owned by her kids. She would demonstrate these voices in
her story telling with an added Caribbean accent to set
the mood. Her favourite story to use her voices is 'Goldilocks
and the Three Bears'. You can hear some of her expressinons
in her 'Jungle Rap' song; the monkey sounds, laughing hyena,
talking parrot and Seymor the giraffe.
Allison
is also well known for her elaborate face
painting. You will find her at schools, daycares, festivals,
birthday parties, libraries, or just about any event working
her magical brush or bringing out the sun in song!
When she's not singing or facepainting, she's striking it
up on a bowling alley and enjoying the company of her wonderful
children, family and friends!
